Accessibility
We aim to build Zoomly to recognised accessibility best practice. We use WCAG 2.2 level AA as the reference we work towards. We have not put the site or the app through a formal external audit, so we are not going to hand you a conformance claim we cannot back. What we will do is tell you where we are up to and make it easy to get a barrier in front of a person.
What we build to
The same principles, on the website and in the app. None of this is exotic. It is the baseline, and we hold ourselves to it.
- Real text rather than pictures of text, so it can be zoomed, read aloud and translated.
- Standard, semantic components, so screen readers and voice control get something sensible to work with instead of a guess.
- Everything reachable by keyboard, with a focus outline you can actually see.
- Colour contrast checked against the brand palette, not assumed.
- Touch targets sized for real hands and shaky mornings.
- Motion kept low, and respecting the reduce motion setting on your device.
- Plain language. If a sentence needs a second read, it is our sentence that is wrong.
Your phone settings carry through
Because the app is built from standard components, the accessibility settings you already rely on come with you: VoiceOver and TalkBack, larger and bold text, high contrast and colour filters, reduce motion, zoom and voice control. Set your phone up the way you need it and Zoomly follows it rather than fighting it.
What we are still working on
We are a new platform and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Accessibility is not a box you tick once at launch and file away. Some of it is built, some of it is in progress, and some of it we will only get to because somebody told us it mattered.
That is also why you will not find a long feature list on this page. We would rather name the things we can stand behind than publish a page of things we cannot. As each one lands, it goes here with the date it landed.
Information in another format
If something on this site or in the app would work better for you in another format, tell us what you need. Ring 1300 918 981 or use the contact form and we will do what we can to get it to you that way. If you are deaf, or find hearing or speaking hard, you can call us through the National Relay Service.
If something gets in your way
Tell us. Use the contact form, or ring 1300 918 981. It goes to a person, not into a queue nobody reads, and a person will look at it.
We are not going to put a clock on a fix, because we would be guessing and you would be waiting on a guess. We are a small team building something new. What we will tell you is whether it is something we can change, and where it is up to.
