A ride, and someone who stays
Accessible transport you can book on demand, driven by a Support Partner who is trained in disability support and who comes in with you when you get there.
What this covers
Every Zoomly ride comes with a Support Partner attached. You are not being dropped at the kerb and left to work out the rest, which is the part that usually goes wrong. You pick where you are going, then pick the support the trip goes with, and the same person drives you, comes in, and gets you home.
- You choose the trip, then choose the support it goes with
- You travel in the vehicle for that booking
- Support time keeps running while your Support Partner drives
- Kilometres carrying you are recorded separately from support time
- An approved, insured and roadworthy vehicle, Support Partner owned or a Zoomly vehicle
What we do not do
The trip attaches to community access, social support and shopping, or life skills development. In practice that is what you were doing anyway: you are going somewhere to do something, and the person driving is the person helping when you arrive.
- A ride on its own, with no support attached. A Zoomly booking is a trip plus a person, not a taxi
- Transport paired with personal care, meal preparation, domestic assistance or home and yard assistance
- School transport, ambulance or specialised patient transport
- Physically transferring or lifting you into or out of the vehicle
- Any unapproved vehicle or unapproved driver
- Travelling while seated in your wheelchair, unless both the modified vehicle and that Support Partner's competency on its restraint system are formally approved
What it looks like
9:15am, your door
Your Support Partner arrives, you head off together, and the support time is already running.
10:00am, wherever you are going
They come in with you and stay for the appointment, the class or the shop.
11:30am, home again
Same person, same booking, one invoice.
How it is funded
This sits in the 0125 or 0117, activity based transport billing group, under Travels with the support it is attached to. If you are plan managed or agency managed, we invoice your plan. If you are self managed, we invoice you.
Questions people ask
Can I book just a lift?
A Zoomly trip always comes with a Support Partner, because that is the point of it. If all you need is a car, a rideshare will be cheaper and we will say so.
Can I stay in my wheelchair for the trip?
Only where the vehicle is modified for it and that Support Partner is signed off on its restraint system. Tell us in the booking and we will only match you with someone approved.
Will they help me into the car?
They will steady the door, manage your aids and be there beside you, but they will not lift or transfer you. That needs a manual handling plan and specific sign off.
How far will you go?
Penrith and the suburbs around it for now, and we are expanding out from there.
