Something proper to eat, without the effort

Planning, cooking and serving, then the kitchen put back the way it was.

What this covers

Cooking is the task that quietly gets dropped first when the day is hard, and it is the one that costs the most when it goes. This is ordinary cooking, to your taste, in your kitchen.

  • Planning meals with you
  • Preparing, cooking and serving food
  • Following your ordinary preferences and dietary instructions, where no clinical plan applies
  • Basic kitchen clean up afterwards

What we do not do

Mealtime support where there is a swallowing risk needs a plan written by a speech pathologist and a worker trained against that specific plan. It is not something to book on demand, and we will not pretend otherwise.

  • Hands on help with eating or drinking
  • Any support where there is a swallowing, dysphagia or choking risk
  • Mealtime management plans, texture modified food, thickened fluids or specialised positioning
  • Tube or enteral feeding
  • Clinical dietary advice, or managing an allergy that needs a medical plan

What it looks like

  1. Dinner tonight

Cooked with you or for you, served, and the kitchen left clean.

  2. A few days ahead

Batch cooking so there is something in the fridge on the days nobody is coming.

  3. Your recipes, not ours

You say what you want and how you like it. Nobody is deciding your dinner for you.

How it is funded

This sits in the 0107 Assist-Personal Activities billing group, under Core supports, assistance with daily life. If you are plan managed or agency managed, we invoice your plan. If you are self managed, we invoice you.

Questions people ask

Does the NDIS pay for the food?

No. It funds the support to get a meal onto a plate, not the groceries. The food is yours.

Can they cook for the whole household?

The support is funded for you. Cooking extra for other people in the house is outside it.

What if I need help actually eating?

That is outside what we do. Hands on eating and drinking support, and anything involving a swallowing risk, needs a clinical plan and specific training.

Can they take my dietary needs into account?

Ordinary preferences and instructions, yes. Anything that needs a medical or clinical plan, no.
